After the mauling by London Welsh Amateurs the week before, another six tries were conceded before half time.

That made it 92 points without scoring ourselves in two halves of rugby. Yet, at half time on Saturday, the 1st XV responded, perhaps belatedly, and scored two tries, one from JAMES ORAM and the other from CHRIS BROMILEY: in fact, when JAMES scored at the beginning of the second half, it seemed just possible there would be a complete fightback and recovery from the 0-40 deficit at the interval. It was not to be as Cheshunt scored a seventh try, again converted, before BE's second try, a good forward drive with CHRIS touching down at the back of driving pack. However that was the end of their recovery so it was 10-47 at the end.

The damage was done almost from the start of the match as C's pack drove BE backwards, at an alarming rate, and when the scrum stopped moving, a centre drove on for an easy try, easily converted. Try number two involved the backs with a standard move that let the left winger with open space and another converted try. The third was a solo move by the scrum half who took the long route round the blindside before coming back on the open side for another soft try, also converted.

My brain cannot remember the rest of the scores other than the three remaining tries were well worked and even better executed: all but the final try, just before the half time whistle, was converted.

So, after a sobering pair of matches which has seen 104 points against and only three tries scored by the 1st XV in the last two matches, it is a question of whether the team can pick themselves up and finish in a flurry: first up is Old Millhillians away on Saturday (16th) - kick-off at Headstone Lane is 3pm.

Meanwhile, on the next pitch, the combined BE/Tabard 2nds lost 5-22 to Watford in the HertsMiddx Merit Table Cup 1st Round; the team play Royston at home in the Plate Competition next Saturday.
