The result apart, this was not a very pleasing performance - neither side played well - but, as they say, a win's a win.

The fact there was only one score between the teams at the end was a great surprise, more so for BE, as they had the lion's share of possession, particularly in the lineouts, and should have had the game sown up long before the end. In the lineouts, MATT GREENWOOD and JAMES ORAM had almost total domination, irrespective of which side threw in, whilst CHRIS BROMILEY also got into the action as BE changed their calls later in the game. However, the direction of play from these set pieces was not controlled, even when ADRIAN TODD made some good breaks in the centre. Ball movement was too slow, even when they had tken it into the loose, and Haringey were able to easily snuff out secondary runs.

After one early miss, CHARLIE MAYS kicked two penalty goals but his colleagues could not take the match on as the game became stagnated between the two 22 with neither side looking like another score, and so it proved as it was 0-6 at half time. By then, the referee had noted both teams were conceding far too many penalties so he had to warn both captains on separate occasions. The penalty count against landed KIERAN PORTED in the bin for being offside at the ruck. Ironically, this coincided with BE's best period of play, ending with ROBBIE CAMERON-STAFF being given enough space to easily beat the home team, the try being well converted by CHARLIE MAYS. And still BE could not break free. Instead, Haringey kicked a penalty, immediately after BE's try, before the home right winger also showed his pace as he broke clear of BE's defence for a try which, although unconverted, still gave the home side some hope of claiming their first win. As it was, BE just did enough to prevent that becoming reality.

The 1st XV are at home to Old Actonians on Saturday, at 3pm.

There was a very successful Mini Festival at the Club on Sunday - teams were enteerd at all age groups, from Under 7s upwards, and the Club's Under 10s and Under 12s won their respective agre group matches.
