Ruislip 7s

An invite to Ruislip to play in their inaugural U15s 7s tournament was duly accepted. Two Barnet sides, two Ruislip sides, two Finchley sides and teams from Henley and Bank Of England made up two leagues of four teams

The idea previously mooted, and confirmed via email the previous day was for the clubs with two teams to field evenly matched sides. Ruislip’s email to themselves was obviously still in the post – and I guess the dog had eaten Finchley’s email – as both clubs fielded one strong side and a weaker side – Finchley finished first and 8th, Ruislip finished second and 7th – comprendez?

Nevertheless, the evenly selected Barnet Shirts (4th) and Tour Shirts (5th) teams performed admirably – Barnet shirts going down by one try to Ruislip As, and Tour Shirts pipped by the same margin by Finchley As.

An enjoyable three hours of rugby – and the opportunity once again for some of the guys who’d stood out in training to showcase their talents – in particular Jared – who showed good stamina and pace; Niall – once he got the hang of the positional aspect finished off a cracking run from Lawrence, plucking a pass 6 inches off of the ground to score; Rob – dazzled with his pace for the 3 minutes he lasted before twisting his ankle.

A pleasure to watch and a fun way to bring the season to a close. Once again, to be able to field two squads of eleven players, of that quality, with the big boys left at home – underlines the strength of our squad.

p.s. – almost forgot – bright and sunny, but turned a bit chilly when the sun went in.
