Tough Mudder

Yesterdays second game was the first time we have joined with the U14s and let me start by saying they were a pleasure to work with . In terms of heart and effort they were exemplary and if I'm honest matched our boys in terms of ability .

The pitch was probably at the limit of playability with the ground very heavy underfoot . Whilst Barnet started with good intensity they just didn't gel as a team in the opening third with Stockwood park scoring 3 easy tries down the wings . The central play was solid with the experience of Zane and George really showing . Jacob and Tommy looked very relaxed and quickly settled in at 9 and 10 . It was just the lack of some more experienced wingers and particularly a full back that let Barnet down .

The second third was much better as the scoreline showed with both teams having chances to score . Barnet began supporting the runner better and the addition of Albert ( U14 ) to the pack meant Barnet were the stronger team in the rucks and scrum . Great job by Ben ( U14 ) at Hooker whos comms were superb organising exactly what he wanted and won every barnet scrum .

The final third looked to be in Barnets favour despite playing back up the hill . Stockwoods tempers mat have got the better of them and a few poor tackled saw them dealt 2 yellow cards . Lewis Oliver re ignited Barnets will to win and with the additional support of the Kings game players on the sideline he charged over the line putting Barnet within shot of victory .

Sadly in the closing minutes Stockwood were able to run another one down the wing to seal the win .

The thing I personally take from the game is the players faces afterwards , despite losing everyone really enjoyed it because the progression was so visible and all the boys gave it their all . Special mention to Zane and George for showing such great sportsmanship and leadership skills , to Jacob and Tommy for a solid stint at 9 and 10 , to Owen for putting himself on the line in the opening 20 , to all the 14s for stepping up , but player of the day goes to Lewis for his blistering try and effort . ( should have put you on at the start mate ! )
