BERFC took the lead 7 - 0 after a sustained period of pressure in the first 15-20 mins. At that point it looked like a relatively easy victory might be on the cards for Barnet. However, Wasps came back strongly twice in the remainder of the half. Two penetrating runs from Wasps players with poor tackling from Barnet lead to two converted tries and Wasps leading 7-14 going into the second half. The flurry of subs throughout the game from both teams, as we gave the entire squads a game, did not disrupt the rhythm of the match. After more pressure from Wasps Barnet started to get the upper hand. An unconverted try took the score to 12-14 in Wasps favour. The final quarter was sustaining Barnet pressure. Two potential tries were held up by Wasps. Eventually the pressure told and with 2 mins to go Barnet turned a penalty into a hard fought converted try to take a 19-14 lead. With the clock ticking down Wasps launched a final flurry of attempts to gain the win. Though momentarily touch and go Barnet held out and penalty restart failures by Wasps sealed the game for Barnet as the clock ran out.
Overall a great season for the U15s finishing 3rd in a competitive league. The squad has increased to 26 with an influx of 14 new players. It is fair to say that had this not happened the viability of the team would have been in doubt. With only loses in the league to the two promoted teams, to Saracens when the squad was still shaking out the new players and the other a narrow loss to the league winners Finchley, the future looks bright for next season if the squad can keep together. It has been a pleasure for the coaches this season as opposed to the chore of the previous two.
