GARETH CHAPMAN was the unfortunate player with a neck injury which received excellent medical attention by both team's physios before the ambulance oould arrive. Fortunately, neither he nor SAM FERGUSON, who had been stretchered off ten minutes earlier after an innocuous tackle on BE's new hooker, was seriously injured in post-match analysis. Both are expected to resume playing in a few weeks.
This scenario was most unfortunate as BE, now with their best team on the pitch, were starting to play together and a good run from centre MATT NICHOLAS had resulted in a try which ROSS WILKINSON converted. The "friendly" was played as four quarters: BE had gone behind in the last seconds of the first quarter when they conceded a try. The second quarter was more brutal, points-wise, as the home side dominated scrums and lineouts and scored three more tries, two converted, to lead 24-0 before team changes improved BE's play but their response was too little too late and then came the unfortunate accidental injuries although neither player had suffered any fracture or long term damage. Both should be back playing in a few weeks time.
The 1st XV start their League programme at home against Twickenham at 3pm.
