The 1st XV hope to have retained their London Three North West League status on Saturday with an eleven try demolition job on Haringey.

An appeal is being lodged with the RFU, later this week, over the administration of our League with specific reference to non playing of certain matches by a certain club.

The maximum points win was secured by half time, when BE had run in five tries with two conversions, although they continued to pile on the points in the second half with six tries, four converted, to comply with LAURENCE SMITH's orders to ensure a strong finish in case points difference became important (it doesn't as it turns out).

JAMES ORAM and MATT GREENWOOD dominated ball winning in the lineouts and the scrum was too strong for the home team, both in the set and loose play. The backs played their part, too, in running direct and hard, to open up the chances, the first of which came when ROBBIE CAMERON-STAFF sped down the left wing for a try which GLYN BAYLEY superbly converted from the touch-line. Then, a text-book lineout catch and drive move saw the pack move 30 yards upfield before RICKY STEVENS went over for a good "forward's try". The ever present JIM MANSFIELD drove over for the first of his three tries before the move of the day: BE won the ball on their 5 metre line before launching an attack which ended with a second superb try by ROBBIE CAMERON-STAFF. The final try of the half came from ADRIAN TODD. A second conversion by GLYN BAYLEY meant that BEs were 29-0 up at the interval but they did not relent in the second period.

Again, it was forward driven ball that allowed the backs to run through their moves, effectively, and create the scoring chances which came at regular intervals. Two more tries from JIM MANSFIELD, for his hat-trick, and a late brace by GLYN BAYLEY added to one try each for MIGUEL GOMEZ and ED MACLENNAN, with four more conversions by GLYN BAYLEY kept the score board ticking over. It was not all one way traffic, though, as BE had to defend resolutely at times yet could not stop the home side scoring two tries, one converted. LAURENCE SMITH rotated the players, using the rolling substitues law, so there were chances for all the squad. BE could have scored even more tries but sometimes complicated simple attacks by kicking for territory rather than keeping the ball in hand.

It now depends on the appeal which the Club must submit by Friday.
