A fifth successive defeat makes it seven in the last eight games as the 1st XV lose further touch with the rest of the League table.

It is not just this season that results have been poor - when you add in the spring games from the 2013/2014 season, the 1st team has lost 11 out of 21 games in 2014. Hardly promotion levels.

The team started strongly with a try inside the first minute - classic line-out catch and drive saw debutant "BUZZ " ALDRIN pile over for a try. BE had good early exchanges but then were pressed back until MATT NICHOLAS scooped up the loose ball on the BE 10 metre line and sprinted though for the try which HARRY EADE converted. It was backs to the wall stuff for the rest of the half as V's piled on the pressure and BE had to defend their line. In the end, two converted tries were conceded, but only after much huff and puff by V's, A penalty in the final seconds, after the umpteenth ill-discipline, meant BE were trailing 14-12 at th break.

In the second half, Be were playing uphill and into the wind and it was n surprise when V's extended their lead with a third converted try. After that, with the result inevitable, BE put forward a series of attacking moves although there was never any real scoring chance. Just before the end, MATT GREENWOOD went off with suspected concussion. There was still time for Vs to score their fourth successive try for the bonus win points whilst BE went away with ziltch, a story of the autumn results.

The 1st XV play their next League match AT Haringey Rhinos on Saturday 10th January at 2.15 (NB the fixtures were switched in the first half of the season due to the New River Stadium pitch being relaid last September/October.

Happy New Year.
