BERFC 50 - 5 Ruislip

Ruislip had run us very close in our final league game last season – with a only a converted try in the dying minutes of the game securing a BERFC victory, and promotion – so although the teams were now in different leagues, an early season renewal was anticipated to provide a decent yardstick for both sides.

Unfortunately Ruislip had lost a number of players during the summer months and three early converted BERFC tries, a dash down the left wing from little Joel and a brace from the returning Cuddles , and the game was effectively over as a contest with only ten minutes on the clock.

With little Joel doubling his tally, and Cuddles bringing up his hat trick – a single response, courtesy of the tricky Ruislip fly-half and the first 25 minute session drew to a close with BERFC 33 – 5 to the good.

A shuffle of personnel and positions, BERFC ran in three more tries unanswered in the second trimester – and with a scoreless 10 minute finale, the game finished 50 – 5.

Credit to Ruislip for sticking to their guns, but the difference that promotion and relegation can have on squad personnel and morale was readily apparent. U16s seems to be a make or break year for a lot of teams, and hopefully Ruislip can regroup and kick on.

Some good individual performances from BERFC – but the team performance didn’t quite reach the heights of Monday evening – a combination of fine tuning from the coaches and over eagerness on the pitch a contributing factor.
