It was a valiant effort by a depleted squad this morning against a very well prepared Tabard team. Barnet started strong and were in Tabard's 22 for a good proportion of the first third. Some excellent line out work with a driving maul that could be described as a thing of beauty (does it show the author is a forward?) helped keep thevisitors pinned back. Not to be outdone a relatively inexperienced set of backs demonstrated some sublime lines of running and fantastic passing. The challenge now for Barnet is how to convert all of that posession into points.
The second third was a different game entirely. Barnet went down to only 7 in their pack and Tabard pounced scoring a brace of tries in quick succession. After licking their wounds and some inspiration from their coaches and captain, Barnet came back in the final third with a renewed attitude and aggression. It was not to be Barnet's day - a very good first run and many positive aspects to a thrilling game of rugby.
Well done to all of the players it was very hard fought but maintained the spirit of what the game is all about.
Wasn't the summer far too long? Haven't we missed these mornings?
