On a very wet and muddy morning at the end of half term 15 (yes that's right only the bare amount to field a team) plucky young chaps turned up with boots and kit ready for quite a challenging game.
After scrounging a few balls to warm up and some creative selections made for the pack the match began in earnest. After only a few minutes it looked like the die was cast and Welwyn passed the ball swiftly down the line and their winger romped home practically unchallenged.
But that was all that the Barnet 15 were prepared to give. Right from the next kick Barnet scored and converted their try to go 2 points in the lead. With some amazing passages of play over the exit 30 minutes at half time Barnet were comfortably in the lead and 4 tries ahead.
Making sure that Welwyn were never to get a look in for the rest of the game Barnet continued to apply pressure on the Welwyn try line.
By the end of the match Barnet had accrued 50 points and Welwyn had been unable to score since the first five minutes.
Maybe every week we should turn up with the bare minimum and no kit? The spirit of the game and the true team effort that was so clearly apparent today is evident by the fact that 8 players got their names on the score sheet and some mess that usually appear were missing. A fabulous result boys and the coaching team could not be prouder.
It would be unfair to single out a single player today but it can safely be said that a few of the lads became rugby men today.
