BERFC U16 vs Veralaniums
By pete hofmann
Tough work fielding a team but in the end Barnet just too strong .
It was a battle to get a Barnet squad together today with 10 at DPP and another 5 dropping out at the last minute . Thanks first of all to Cameron for stepping in despite playing yesterday and also having a few conditions ( playing at 15 and taking conversions lol )
Veralaniums have lost a few players and like us picked up some U15s but our boys were clearly the bigger side . The ref was very clear that he wanted the game to be clean , with no handoffs above the shoulder and no high tackles ( something that he would punish us for in the second half )
Barnet didn't play their best rugby by any means and the slightly slower pace and boys out of position resulted in a lot of lost ball which Barnet didn't need . That said as soon as our stronger boys got the ball tries were inevitable . Our scrummaging was good and actually the closest part of the game with Yunus , Josh and Usman taking the front row for the first time and Joaseph Adebayo playing his first full game at 6 .
Some of the backs moves were ok and some nice kicking from Jacob on the wing set up some of the tries . That said he did manage to put the ball down infront of the line , apparently being put off by their coaches standing in the try area so he thought it was the dead ball line . Luckily the ball didn't go forward and so Callum who was hot on his heels got the point .
in the second half Veralaniums lost a player so we played 14 and taking off cameron and then George ( who was unstoppable ) made the game a bit more even and then with Reece sent off for an accidental high tackle and Barnet plying 13 ( which we stuck to for the whole second half ) Veralaniums started to make more of an impression , not least with some great tickles on Cameron .
Georges players of the day go to Josh BG , Louis ( for a solid game at 10 ) and to Jacob for another good appearance on the wing . Also deserving a mention is Cameron for his debut at both 15 and 10 for Barnet and for a couple of impressive conversions ( once he got the hang of it )
Good work Fellas.
