Squeaky clean performance from a very mixed U16s Squad

Its fair to say that with it still being easter both sides were short on players and Barnet were also fielding a number of injuries . This was our last league game and whilst the result was not critical for either side but with Herts RFU and our Junior chairman in attendance Barnet were keen to show the kind of rugby we normally like to play .

Thanks to the Harpenden coaches for excellent organisation , providing not only a fantastic ref but also team sheets , RFU numbers and a very warm welcome . Much like our U14s were the first away squad to play on their new 4G pitch Barnet U16 were the last to play on the Harpenden grass which , no joke , began to be pulled up as we left the pitch to make way for their new AGP facility .

Barnet looked half asleep at KO , and a great run from the Harpenden centre crashes through putting the hosts up at only 1 minute 10 seconds . Gulp . Settling down it wasn't long before a trademark run from Leevin Nigimbi and good hands by Louis Macardle ( stepping in at 10 ) allowed Cameron McNeil to finish with a great drive through putting Barnet 2 behind .

Indeed it was good to see some of our lads who work hard training get some game time , some great hands by Callum Bremner nearly saw George Sturley over the line with the ball just being held up . Charlie Northrop back at 15 was unlucky with eth bounce after a long clearance kik and it was frustrating to see Harpenden repeat their excellent backs move with the centre once again charging through the Barnet defence .

Some of that frustration clearly motivated the Barnet Lads with a superb driving run from Albert Pointing , who despite being an U15 was able to get the ball down with a pile of Harpenden players on his back . Minutes before half time a great steal from Reece Kelly and quick pass to Josh BG put Barnet up at half time .

Sadly with injuries from last week resurfacing Barnet were forced to make some radical changes and its fair to say this took the wind out of the Barnet boys , with understandable some frustration showing . Barnet allowed their heads to go down and Harpenden punished them for it with try after try .

It wasn't till the final 10 that Barnet finally readjusted to their new line up with Reece rewarded for all his hard work with a try with Louis Macardle narrowly missing the conversion hitting the LHS post . He was similarly rewarded with a great little chip with the ball bouncing beautifully into his hands and another Barnet try .

With full time Louis stepped up to take the final conversion of the season . The ref and Maurice joked that maybe this time he could hit the other post . Maurice bet him 20 quid he couldn't . He did ....We laughed , and all was well again in the world of Barmet U16s .

A great season lads . You should all be very proud . How far we have come and how much we have grown together as a team ..
